Well, as per researchers from Purdue University, it is true, as watermelon avoids the build-up of harmful cholesterol. Watermelons have health-boosting properties present in citrulline (chemical found in the juice). The citrulline present in the the fruit helps to control weight gain and results in less deposit of fat inside the blood vessels.
The researchers experimented their trials on mice and the study showed no significant effects on blood pressure. But, it found that watermelons had an influence on other heart risk factors. The group fed two groups of mice, a fat diet food, and they provided water to one group and watermelon juice to another group. Later they followed their health condition for several months and in the end, the watermelon group showed 50% less LDL than those on water, even though both groups shared the same diet.
Well, if you are wondering what LDL is, it is Low-density lipoprotein and is a form of cholesterol that leads to blocked blood vessel and heart diseases. The study didn’t receive any significant result of watermelon consumption on blood pressure but has definetely been proved as great for your overall good health.
So, now that we all know the benefits of watermelon, we can add to the old saying, “an apple a day, keeps the doctor away and a slice of watermelon a day, saves your heart and prevents weight gain”. Nice, right?
