The Lancet, a British Medical Journal, reported that obesity has become a mighty health crisis, overruling hunger and malnutrition across the world! It is also known as one of the key causes giving rise to many types of disabilities as well. About 500 researchers gathered data from 50 counties and the health data between the years 1990 to 2010 was compared, which concluded in the Global Burden of Disease Report that revealed a drastic shift in the health trends with respect to food consumption at the global level. Oh no! Its an Obese World!
Highly contradictory to the previously prevalent condition of deaths due to lack of food and nutrition, the present day scenario has seen a massive shift with respect to mortality rates. The count of children who were dying due to infectious diseases has now come down remarkably due to immunization. Research reports have revealed that each country, except the Sub-Saharan African, are seeing increasing obesity ratio of about 82 percent over the last 20 years. Another shocking fact adds, Middle Eastern countries having obese rates shooting up to see 100 percent!
Let us now take a look at the root cause – Western Lifestyle – is the culprit. The countries have adopted and adapted to the eating, drinking and lifestyle habits of the countries in the west. So the impact on these countries is also as that of on the western countries. The outcome, high BMI – body mass index exceeds because of hunger and urge to eat more that shows through obesity, which is increasingly posing rising threat of developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
So here it is – the Global Epidemic – Obesity. It is high time to stop ‘The Big Fat World’ phenomenon. Of course the medical science can treat these diseases; yet, more awareness should be created among the mass population of all the countries by reaching out to spread risks brought in by overeating and obesity. Tips on healthy lifestyle, exercise and balanced diet should be the message that needs to reach each and every household in all these countries.
People….come on, do not let the folks in the medical field make money through your ailments. It seems to be the shifting focus now and proves to be profitable for the countries’ economy! Now, this is not the way to contribute to increase your country’s economy! So eat healthy and live healthy. Cheers!!
